West Virginia Export Success
With more than $3.3 billion in exports in 2004, international trade continues to be an important sector of West Virginia’s economy.
Governor Joe Manchin announced in this press release that exports increased 37 percent from 2003 to 2004, outpacing the U.S. export growth rate of 13 percent during the same period.
West Virginia’s top exports include chemicals, plastics, machinery, coal, automotive components, hardwoods, aluminum, steel and other industrial and consumer products. These products are exported to Canada, Belgium, Japan, China, Mexico and more than 100 other countries.

Governor’s Commendation for International Market Entry

Based on the tradition of a small business framing their “first dollar earned” and hanging it on their wall, this award includes an actual piece of currency from a new market that an exporter enters.
More than 300 of these awards, representing export sales to 85 countries, have been presented since 2002.
